7.6 Cleaning the spark stand
Caution! Risk of electric shock!
If the instrument is switched on, there a risk of electrical shock.
Shut down the Plasma generator (excitation unit) during all work on the
spark stand.
Caution! Toxic and flammable substances!
The sparking process produces a black precipitate (metal condensate). The
condensate could be toxic or flammable, depending on the sample material.
Protective gloves and safety goggles must always be worn when
cleaning in the spark stand and when cleaning the gas-washing bottle the
filter bottle. This also applies when replacing the filter insert.
When disposing of the condensate, compliance with legal regulations is
mandatory.
Notice! Risk of damage to the instrument and malfunction!
Incorrect cleaning of the spark stand increases the risk of damage to the
instrument or malfunctions during measurements.
Please observe the following rules during cleaning:
Use only a suitable heat-resistant vacuum cleaner. The removed
condensate may ignite inside the vacuum cleaner.
Always remove the spark stand plate and the spacer when using a
vacuum cleaner while cleaning the spark stand chamber.
During this process, water from the gas-washing bottle may be sucked
into the spark stand.
Do not keep the vacuum cleaner near the argon outlet that leads into the
filter cartridge. As a result, water my be sucked into the spark stand.
