Examples of invalid filenames are:

hers-The asterisk is not a valid character for
filenames.
.DATA-The period is valid in a filename only when
separating the filename from its extension.
regionsales-Filenames have a maximum of eight
characters. MS-DOS uses only the first eight char-
acters of the filename (regionsa).
COST+ INT-The plus symbol is not a valid char-
acter for filenames.
CON.dat-CON is a word reserved by MS-DOS.

The MS-DOS operating system includes both in-
