(3) Adjustment

Install the pitman arm on the sector shaft. While
pushing and pulling the pitman arm with a force
of about 19.6 N {2 kgf} [4.4 lbf], measure the
backlash.
Backlash: Below 0.35 mm [0.0138 in.]
If not satised, take step that follows.

Adjust the backlash by the adjustment screw at
the side cover. After the adjustment is complete,
tighten the lock nut.
Tightening torque: 19.6 to 29.4 N-m
{2 to 3 kgf-m}
[14.5 to 21.7 lbf-ft]
Note: Be sure to adjust it at the center of steering
angle.

By pushing and pulling the pitman arm, check
the operation.

Measure the worm shaft starting torque.

Fix the pitman arm as shown in Fig. 6.54.
