PreparingtoJumpStarttheBattery
CAUTION
Corrosionorlooseconnectionscancause
unwantedelectricalvoltagespikesatanytime
duringthejumpstartingprocedure.
DoNotattempttojumpstartwithlooseor
corrodedbatteryterminalsordamagetothe
enginemayoccur.
1.Checkthecableclampsandbatteryterminals
ofthedischargedbatteryforcorrosion(white,
green,orblue“snow”)andcheckthatthe
hardwarefortheclampsistight.
Cleancorrosionfromthebatteryterminalsand
cableclamps.
2.Checkthatthehardwareforthecableclamps
istight.
Tightenthecable-clamphardwareasneeded.
3.Checkthattheventcapsonthedischarged
batteryandboosterbatteryaretightandlevel.
4.Ifavailable,placedampclothesoverthevent
capsofbothbatteries.
5.Ifyouarejumpstartingfromthebatteryin
anothervehicle,ensurethatithasa12Vlead
acidbattery.
Important:Ensurethatthe2vehiclesdo
nottouch.
6.Ensurethattheboosterbatteryisfullycharged
with12.6voltsorgreater.
7.Selectproperlysizedjumpercables(4to6
AWG)withshortlengthstoreducevoltagedrop
betweensystems.
Choosejumpercableswithcolorcodedor
polaritylabeledcablesorclamps.
ConnectingtheJumperCables
CAUTION
Connectingthejumpercablesincorrectly
(wrongpolarity)canimmediatelydamagethe
electricalsystem.
Becertainofbatteryterminalpolarityand
jumpercablepolaritywhenhookingup
batteries.
