Adjusttheservicebrakeswhenthereismorethan1inch(25
mm)of“freetravel”ofthebrakepedal,orwhenthebrakes
donotworkeffectively.Freetravelisthedistancethebrake
pedalmovesbeforebrakingresistanceisfelt.
1.Disengagethelockinglatchfromthebrakepedalsso
thatbothpedalsworkindependentlyofeachother.
2.Toreducefreetravelofthebrakepedals,tightenthe
brakes:
A.Loosenthefrontnutonthethreadedendofthe
brakecable.
B.Tightentherearnuttomovethecablebackward
untilthebrakepedalshave1/2to1inch(13to
25mm)offreetravel.
C.Tightenthefrontnutsafterthebrakesareadjusted
correctly.

Checktheconditionandtensionofthebelts(Figure69)after
every100operatinghours.
1.Propertensionwillallow3/8inch(10mm)deection
whenaforceof10lbisappliedonthebeltmidway
betweenthepulleys.
2.Ifthedeectionisnot3/8inch(10mm),loosenthe
alternatormountingbolts(Figure69).Increaseor
decreasethealternatorbelttensionandtightenthe
bolts.Checkthedeectionofthebeltagaintoensure
thatthetensioniscorrect.

Checktheconditionandtensionofthecuttingunitdrivebelts
initiallyafter8hoursofoperationandevery50operating
hoursthereafter.
Whenproperlytensioned,theextensionspring(hookto
hook)measurementshouldbeapproximately3.50±.25inch
(inside).Oncethecorrectspringtensionisattained,adjust
thestopbolt(carriagebolt)untilthereisapproximately.125

theidlerarm(
