FOLLOW THESE FOUR STEPS TO PROCESS A CHIP
TRANSACTION:
Identify whether the card has a chip. It looks like this:
Insert the chip card into the POS device and follow the prompts. The POS device
will outline how to complete the transaction and whether the customer needs to
enter his/her PIN or sign the receipt. Do not remove the card.
If prompted, ask the customer to enter his/her PIN followed by ‘enter’. Never
enter the PIN on behalf of the customer. If the POS device doesn’t ask for a PIN,
ensure the customer signs the receipt.
Wait for an ‘OK’ to appear on the POS device screen. This means the transaction
is complete. If the transaction is declined, ask the customer whether he/she has
another method of payment.
