7.8 Mounting the ECU in the trailer
NOTICE
DamagetotheECUbyuids
The ECU can be damaged by the penetration of uids. The gap between the bottom of the housing
and the cover must not point upwards or in the direction of travel.
Mount the ECU so that the top of the ECU (the side with the socket) is facing in the direction of
travel.
Read Chapter "6.2 ECU – The electronic control unit", page 31.
Determine the best possible installation position, depending on the type of the trailer:
Drawbar trailer:
Mount the ECU at the centre of the trailer.
Semitrailers and central axle trailers:
Mount the ECU in the front area on the cross member near the middle axle or in the middle
between all axles.
ECU longitudinal axis must be in parallel with the vehicle axis.
Maintaining good radio contact the ECU must not be shielded off by metal walls in its direct
vicinity.
Observe the following distances when installing the ECU:
min. 50 cm to third-party electronics
min. 50 cm to metallic surfaces
max. 225 cm to internal sensors (SMS)
max. 300 cm to internal sensors (WIS)
NOTICE
Damage to the vehicle frame due to welding
Welding work for mounting the bracket (WABCO part number 446 220 000 4) may affect the strength
of the vehicle frame.
Screw the bracket to the vehicle.
Attach the ECU below on the frame.
Tighten ECU to bracket using torque of 15 ±1.5 Nm.
