Customer Expectation and Installation Guide Xerox Confidential 9

If a customer decides to install an anti-virus product on FreeFlow Print
Server, they are responsible for maintaining updates to the product. If
system reliability and performance issues are subsequently reported, Xerox
will request the product be removed and the problem replicated, before
attempting to diagnose or troubleshoot the problem.

Security
The customer is responsible for assessing the security risk for their
environment and defining appropriate mitigation that may include
changes to the default settings of the Xerox equipment or standard
operating processes. Xerox understands the importance of maintaining a
secure network environment and recommends that customers change the
default built-in passwords and modify the security-related configuration
options to satisfy their site-specific security requirements upon completion
of system installation. Xerox is committed to helping the customer keep
the print server secure and compliant with the latest security requirements.
This is managed via a Security Audit Process.

For more guidance on implementing security see
http://www.xerox.com/security

Xerox monitors alerts announcing new Security vulnerabilities. These alerts
are evaluated for impacts to the system and software. All patches
applicable to the print server products are prioritized based on severity,
system tested, and integrated into System Problem Action Report (SPAR)
releases.

SPAR updates will be installed on your FreeFlow Print Server by Xerox
Service. Please contact your support Analyst or the Xerox Welcome Center
for information on the applicability and availability of security patches. The
system cannot be patched or upgraded while operating/printing.

Customer Service and Support
Periodically, Xerox will make available bug fixes and other software
releases. Some of these bug fixes and upgrades are designed to be
customer installable. DVDs with patches can be obtained by calling the
Xerox Hotline Support Center.

Disposal of Hard Drives
Some IT communities may request information on the handling of Hard
Drives when equipment is returned to Xerox. They may also ask for a
Statement of Volatility (SOV). This document is available for both the
FreeFlow Print Server and the Print Engine. Contact your local Xerox
representative for further details.

Software Replacement
If lost, or misplaced, replacement software and documentation is available
to be purchased. For the United States, you can access replacements
through the Software Services web site http://www.xdss.com. If you reside
outside the United States, work with your local Xerox Representative. Xerox
personnel may not be able to provide services unless these materials are
available.

Adobe PDF Print Engine
The FreeFlow Print Server version 9.0 SP3 incorporates Adobe
®
PDF
®
Print
Engine version 2.5 as a standard licensed feature. Adobe PDF Print Engine
provides true native rendering of PDF files, using common rendering with
the Adobe Creative Suite
®
. This technology ensures output matches the
creative vision, including effects such as live transparency, blending modes
and drop shadows. The integration of Adobe PDF Print Engine also takes
advantage of the unique strengths of FreeFlow Print Server, including color
profile and spot color table accuracy.

The Adobe PDF Print Engine and Legacy PDF paths can result in visual
output and performance differences based on job characteristics. The
FreeFlow Print Server allows the choice, on a queue basis, of using either
the Adobe PDF Print Engine or legacy PDF processing. Regardless of the
choice for PDF processing, the queue can continue to accept and process
jobs in other traditional formats such as PostScript
®
, VIPP and PCL. It is
recommended to test key applications to evaluate quality and
performance prior to implementing.

File Creation
Even with the ability to process files through the Adobe PDF Print Engine
there can be variations in processing times and color when comparing this
to the traditional PostScript pathway. It is always best to create files
appropriate for the intended production workflow. Image source color
profiles, common color conversion working spaces, live vs. flattened
transparency should all be considered prior to creation for best end results.
Images that are scaled and rotated to their appropriate angle, size and
resolution prior to being placed in a design program will typically process
better. Always refer to a design guide for advice.

Always read the full documentation and understand how PDFs affect color
paths with the print engine. There are many online resources available to
help optimize PDF’s for printed output.

File Formats
The following file formats are supported:
PostScript level 1, 2, or 3 per the PostScript language Reference Manual
Supplement v3017
Adobe Portable Document Format version up to 1.8 (Acrobat 9). Adobe
