  Low suction pressure in a York Chiller can stem from a few issues. First, check for refrigerant leaks and charge the system if the refrigerant level is insufficient. A subcooler level valve problem could also be the cause; remove any obstructions. Additionally, inspect the evaporator tubes for dirt or restrictions and clean them if necessary. Finally, if the system load is insufficient for its capacity, check the prerotation vane and hot gas valve operation, as well as the setting of the low liquid temperature cutout.

To resolve this, clean the condenser tubes and check the water conditioning. Another cause could be high condenser water temperature, in which case you should reduce the condenser water inlet temperature, checking the cooling tower and water circulation. Finally, insufficient condensing water flow can also lead to this problem; increase the quantity of water through the condenser to the proper value.

  High evaporator pressure in your York Chiller can be caused by prerotation vanes failing to open. Check the prerotation vane motor positioning circuit. Another reason may be system overload. Ensure the vanes are wide open, the hot gas valve is fully closed, and the speed is at maximum. System conditions might require override controls to limit the chiller capacity until the load decreases.
