DNP 3.0 OPC Server features2.2.
The Distribute Networks Protocol (DNP) 3.0 is a standards-based communication protocol
designed for electric utility, water, oil & gas and security systems. DNP is hardware-
independent and works with a variety of networks enabling communication between
substation computers, Remote Terminal Units (RTUs), Intelligent Electronic Devices
(IEDs) and master stations over serial or LAN-based systems.
The physical layer can be any bit-serial physical layer such as RS-232 C, RS-485 or
ethernet.
