Chapter 4 TwelvePulse Serial / Sequential Configurations with DCS 600
II F2
4 - 14 DCS 600 Manual for 12 Pulse Operation
Extended Volt-
age range
(up to 1000 V)
12-pulse serial/sequential in sandwich configuration for C4
converters
If a drive compromises to equal DC motors which operate always
under the same conditions (same speed , same armature voltage,
same flux ) then the so called sandwich configuration is possible;
see figure 4/7. The benefit of this configuration is that no point of
the DC power circuit can have the sum of two voltages, neither
converter voltage plus motor voltage nor twice the converter volta-
ge nor twice the motor voltage. In consequence the insulation re-
quirements of the DC machines as well as within the converters do
not differ from those of two separate six-pulse configurations.
The requirements for the extended voltage range are:
Fix mechanical connection between both motor shafts
Both motor fields are connected in series.
Both motors have the same ratings.
