Appendix 4 / Super Centerline Guiding
The Super Centerline Guiding feature allows for centerline guiding within the total area of
detection of two edge detectors. This feature is useful for applications where centerline guiding is
desired over a very broad area relative to the web width, and where the desired area of detection
is larger than a single detector.
To select Super Centerline Mode, set parameter 98 to a value of 3. Super Centerline Mode can
also be selected over the fieldbus interface, see page 103.
In order to provide continuous tracking of the web over the entire range of both edge detectors,
the edge detectors’ area of detection must overlay by at least 0.6” [15mm]. The system must also
be “taught” the amount of overlay after installation so that the guide point values are accurate and
consistent during operation.
To teach the amount of overlay for Super Centerline Guiding:
1: Calibrate the edge detectors, see page 57.
2: Insert a narrow material,1” [25.4mm] to 4” [101.6mm] wide, into the edge detector array.
3: Slowly (less than one inch per second) move the material through the overlapping area of
detection. For the best results, take care to ensure the material is relatively perpendicular
to the edge detectors.
4: Wait 10 seconds then put the system into automatic mode. If the system is put into
automatic mode before completing the above steps start over at step 1.
Appendix 5 / Fusion Mode
Fusion Mode allows for one controller to operate both an ultrasonic and infrared edge detector
simultaneously and automatically select the detector with the best signal for the application. This
allows for reliable guiding of very difficult to detect materials, or for quick changeover between
very different material types without the need for recalibrating detectors. To operate in Fusion
Mode, set parameter 28 to a value of 1 in the parameters menu. Fusion mode can also be
selected over the fieldbus interface , see page 103.
