If the instrument was purchased for operation at a specific volt-
age, the proper fuses were factory installed. The fuses should
be 250V time delay (Type T) fuses rated at 5 amperes for 100-
130V, 50-60Hz operation; 2.5 amperes for 200-240V, 50-60Hz
operation. See Chapter 5 if it is necessary to replace the fuses.
3. Obtain Required Items not Supplied by the Manufacturer:
a. Soft, no-lint paper tissues for cleaning the sample probe.
b. Clean, dry 2-mL or 2.5-mL pipet.
B. Sample tubes and sample sizes
To achieve the performance specified in Appendix B, we recom-
mend that you use only 2-mL samples in Advanced Instruments
sample tubes. Samples as large as 2.5-mL may be tested, but their
equilibrium plateaus develop more slowly and their results are no
more precise. Maintaining parameter consistency is more important
than the exact value. Cryoscopes should always be calibrated with
the same sample size used for testing.
Different sample tube sizes and styles should not be used together
because each may require a different instrument adjustment and/or
calibration. Sample tubes should be as uniform as possible in com-
position, shape and size.
C. Storage and handling of supplies and
accessories
Calibration Standards—Unopened calibration standards and ref-
erence solutions should be stored at 39°F to 86°F (4°C to 30°C).
Expiration dates are printed on the package labels. After opening,
avoid contamination and evaporation; treat as recommended in
Chapters 1 and 2.
