While the self-diagnostic test is running, “Running Diagnostics”
is displayed. When the 4C3 has completed the self-diagnostic test,
“Cryoscope Ready” is displayed and the instrument is ready for
regular testing. Please turn to Chapter 2 for operating instructions.
If the probe data has been lost from memory, “Reset Probe
Configuration” will be displayed and printed, the instrument
will switch to the SETUP menu, and you should contact Advanced
Instruments’ Hot-Line
®
service before proceeding further.
I. Functions of major parts and controls
Operation of the instrument will be quicker and easier if you become
familiar with the locations and functions of the components, systems,
and controls described below before proceeding further.
Functionally, this microprocessor-controlled instrument consists of
automatic sample holding and centering devices, a precision digital
thermometer, cooling and freezing chambers, measurement and con-
trol circuitry, a keypad, and a message display panel. These basic
systems include the following parts and controls:
1. Power Module (see figure 7): Contains the following power
components:
a. Power Switch: Press ( l ) for power on, (O) for power off.
The power may be left on continuously.
b. Power Cord Connector: To accommodate a power cord suit-
able for the power available.
c. Fuse Holder: For containing fuses suitable for the power
available.
2. Barcode Port: A D-type 15-pin barcode port in the back of the
instrument (see figure 7) is intended for attachment of an option-
al barcode scanner, as described in section J.
