2.3.2 sHutteR
The Shutter is an optional item on the Mechelle system.
• If an ICCD camera is used, the image intensier acts as the shutter (however a mechanical shutter may still be
used as a way to minimise photobleaching of the intensier).
• If a CCD camera is used, a shutter must also be used to ensure that no light falls on the sensor during the
readout.
The shutter (if tted) is located behind the slit in the shutter housing. The shutter housing contains an electronic shutter
driver which connects through the Shutter/Temperature cable.
To improve the optical performance (especially in the UV region) the shutter housing can be ushed with dry gas to
remove any water vapour. This can be done via the two access holes (normally sealed by grub screws) which are located
at the top and bottom of the shutter housing, as shown in Figure 5.

The slit rotation can be adjusted using an Allen Key as shown below in Figure 6.
