HTTP Hypertext Transfer Protocol, used to request and transmit pages on the World Wide
Web.
HTTPS Hypertext Transfer Protocol Secure is a widely-used communications protocol for
secure communication over a computer network. It is the result of layering the
Hypertext Transfer Protocol (HTTP) on top of the SSL/TLS protocol, thus adding the
security capabilities of SSL/TLS to standard HTTP communication.
IETF Internet Engineering Task Force, the organization that produces standards for
communications on the internet.
LAN Local Area Network.
LLDP Link Layer Discovery Protocol. All 9608, 9608G, 9611G, 9621G, or 9641G IP
deskphones with an Ethernet interface support the transmission and reception of
LLDP frames on the Ethernet line interface in accordance with IEEE standard
802.1AB. SIP Software Release 2.0 and up supports LLDP.
MAC Media Access Control, ID of an endpoint.
PPM Personal Profile Manager, responsible for maintaining and managing end users’
personal information in the system.
QoS Quality of Service, used to refer to several mechanisms intended to improve audio
and signaling quality over packet-based networks.
RTCP Real-time Transport Control Protocol.
RTP Real-time Transport Protocol.
SCEP
Simple Certificate Enrollment Protocol, used to obtain a digital certificate.

TCP Transmission Control Protocol, a connection-oriented transport-layer protocol.
TLS Transport Layer Security, an enhancement of Secure Sockets Layer (SSL). TLS is
compatible with SSL 3.0 and allows for privacy and data integrity between two
communicating applications.
UDP User Datagram Protocol, a connectionless transport-layer protocol.
URI & URL Uniform Resource Identifier and Uniform Resource Locator. Names for the strings
used to reference resources on the Internet (for example, HTTP://....). URI is the
newer term.
