User’s Guide 6-5
Transponder Device on the satellite which can receive terrestrial input and transmit it back to the
Earth in the form of a broadcast. Transponders typically handle several programs each.
Tuner A component in the digital receiver used to select a single radio, television, or satellite
frequency from all the frequencies hitting the antenna.
Unicast Unicast is communication between a single sender and a single receiver over a network.
The provider allocates one or more specific PID numbers for unicast data, which the
digital receiver must be configured to recognize.
Universal LNB A converter equipped with two local oscillators. The frequency of the first oscillator
(LOF1) is at 9,750 MHz; the frequency of the second oscillator (LOF2) is at 10,600
MHz. This is sometimes represented as: L.O. 9.75/10.6 GHz.
Uplink Signal path from the Earth to the satellite transponder. Typically it includes the path
from Sky2PC to the satellite transponder’s proxy server via the Internet.
USB Universal Serial Bus (USB) is a plug-and-play interface between a computer and add-on
devices.
Video overlay mixer Software which can override (overlay) color resolution and other display parameter set-
tings within the confines of the video window when video is played. If disabled, the nor-
mal parameters take effect.
