Glossary-2 T-Series Traffic Director Installation, Configuration and Administration Guide
carrier A telecommunications company that offers its services to the public. Also known as a service
provider or an operator.
CDMA Code Division Multiple Access. A method of dividing a radio spectrum to be shared by multiple
users through the assignment of unique codes. CDMA implements spread spectrum transmission.

cdma2000 A 3G technology that increases data transmission rates for existing CDMA network operators.
cdma2000 Phase 1 provides 144 Kbps of data integrated with voice and is known by several
names: IS-2000, MC-1X, IMT-CDMA, MultiCarrier 1X, and 1XRTT. Several other phases are
planned to continue increasing speed and functionality. See also WAN and TDMA.
channel In communications, a separate path or link through which information signals can be transmitted.
The term can refer to separation by a physical medium, such as a cable, or to electrical separation,
such as by frequency- or time-division multiplexing.
chassis A chassis or a shelf is a single rack-mounted hardware configuration that houses all T3100 module
types (power modules, network modules, application modules, and so on). The terms chassis and
shelf are used interchangeably in this manual. Every T3100 platform installation includes a
primary shelf with all required modules. Installations with higher traffic volumes may have one or
more extension shelves that add additional application and network modules.
CIM Control Interface Module. The CIM is used to implement the T3100 platform’s service control
network. This external network connects the platform to the operators external control
systems, such as RADIUS servers.
CLI Command Line Interface. A CLI is an interface that allows the user to interact with the operating
system by entering commands and arguments.
client In a client/server architecture, an application that requests services from another application, called
the server, running on the same or on a different computer. The term client can also refer to the
computer on which the client application is running.
clientless In a clientless configuration, the subscriber does not run any special software to integrate with
T3100 services.

CLIR Calling Line Identity Restriction. A mechanism that hides the caller’s phone number from the
content provider’s display.
CSM Bytemobile T3100 Control and State Module. A required node of all Bytemobile T3100 platforms.
Provides management services for the T3100 platform, including configuration management,
alarm and event management, and session and subscriber management
DHCP Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol. DHCP provides a mechanism for allocating IP addresses
dynamically so that addresses can be reused when hosts no longer need them.
