22) Using a square, set the distance from the outside of the struts to the inside of the strike
jamb at 5" (127 mm). See Figure # 28.
23) Tighten the remaining bolt on the strike jamb bracket to the sill. Now go to the top and
tighten the 1/4" bolts joining the head jamb assembly to the header.
24) At the bottom, measure the distance from the inside of the strike jamb to the pass jamb
and set the pass jamb at 36" (914 mm). See Figure # 28.
25) Finally, tighten the pass jamb bracket stud bolts to the sill. The entrance assemblies are
now completely assembled. Re-check all fasteners for tightness.
Installing the Entrance Assembly
1) Move the entrance assembly into the opening and initially centre it. To align the entrance
left to right, a mark must first be placed on the platform. On the strike jamb side, mark a
line 2 1/4" (57 mm) in from the edge of the platform. This is called the "daylight line" and
is the alignment point for the inside faces of both the car and the landing strike jambs.
2) Position the entrance assembly until the distance between the car sill edge and the
landing door sill edge is 1 1/4" (32 mm). See Figure # 17.
NOTE
This 1 1/4" is the running clearance between the car and the landing doors. This dimension is
critical and must be maintained.
3) Using a square, align the strike jamb to the daylight line drawn on the platform earlier.
4) To accommodate the finished floor, raise the entrance assembly by shimming under the
architraves. Note, the contractor must provide the height of the finished floor at the
landing.
5) For proper running clearances, set the clearance at 1 1/4" (32 mm) from the car sill to the
landing sill. Check that the landing sill is level side to side and front to back.
6) The entrance assembly has now been properly positioned and can be tied in to the wall
with the wall attachment brackets, or tie angles. See Figure # 27, Item # 8 or Figure # 30.
7) With the entrance assembly held in position by temporary supports or the help of an
assistant, fasten the wide part of the tie angle to the struts and the narrow side to the wall.
Do not tighten yet, just make the bolts snug. Use lag bolts for wood, masonry anchors or
Tapcons for block or concrete. There should be a minimum of two 3/8" (10 mm) anchors
for each tie angle.
NOTE
Typically, the tie angles will extend below the sill and above the header.
8) Tighten the wall anchors, but leave the strut fasteners finger tight. Do the same for the
opposite side and re-check the sill for level.
