13) Bend down the safety tab closest to the vertical section of the gib assembly. This tab is an
additional safety retainer in the event of fire or loss of the gib (nylon guide).
14) Slide the gib into the track and up to the edge of the door panel. Move the door panel
manually to allow the gib to slide underneath the door and align it with the two holes on
the side of the door panel.
NOTE
If the gib will not fit under the door due to the screws hitting, then there is less than 1/4" (6 mm)
clearance between the door and the aluminum sill. If so, re-adjust the roller hanger bearings.
See Figure # 28.
15) Insert the two self-tapping screws provided and attach the gib assembly to the door panel.
Follow same procedure for installing the second gib.
16) Ensure the door slides back and forth smoothly. When satisfied that the door is not
binding in the track, move on to the second door panel and repeat same procedure.
17) Align the door panels with each other and the pass jamb. Only 1/4" (6 mm) clearance is
permitted. Check at the pass jamb for consistent clearance top to bottom. At the leading
and trailing edge of the fast door, align the panels and ensure consistent clearance.
NOTE
If required, the gibs and be adjusted to align the bottom of the door panels and the hanger
assembly can be adjusted to align the top.
18) Install the rubber door bumpers using the holes provided on the strike jamb.
NOTE
A little extra time spent on proper installation of the door gib assemblies will ensure the door
panels operate smoothly, quietly and without binding. Poorly installed gibs are a common
cause of improperly operating entrances.
Go back to the hanger roller assembly now and re-install the hanger upthrust rollers. Like the
hanger roller's bearings, the upthrust rollers' bearings are eccentric and move up and down as
the centre shaft is rotated.
19) Set the steel upthrust rollers (located under the main hanger roller track), as close as
possible to the underside of the track, but not touching. Do not exceed 1/16" (2 mm)
clearance. Retighten the lock nut.
Installing the Safety Retainers
For fire and mechanical safety, the codes require additional safety retainers to be installed.
Concord provides six (6) safety retainers painted bright red for identification purposes. These
retainers must be mounted (one set on the fast door and one set on the slow door), on the
underside of the door panels adjacent to the gib assemblies and on the main upper track
assembly.
