TROUBLESHOOTING
If there is no datalink from the Gauge
¾ There will always be a green indicator and a
Link OK
message in the CygLink main
window while the PC is receiving communication from the Gauge – if not :
Ö Check that the Gauge is correctly connected to a spare Serial-port on the PC
See : Data & Power Connections
, page 21
Ö Check that CygLink COM-port setting is the same as the Serial port which the
Gauge is connected to.
Check that the Baud-Rate setting is correct [normally set to 2400]
See : Adjusting the Comms-settings using CygLink
, page30
Ö Check that the correct power is being supplied to the Gauge
See : Gauge Specification
, pages 9, 10, 11
¾ If the settings are all correct, but there is a red indicator and link error messages
Ö It may be necessary to add cable-termination at the surface end of the cable
See : Data and Power Connection
, page 21
¾ If setting-up the Cygnus 1 ROV System for the first time :
Ö Connect the system together using the supplied Test-Cable to confirm the Gauge
has the correct connections to operate
Ö Confirm that the PC has a spare Serial port installed – use Windows
®
Control
Panel to check System settings
¾ If the datalink is OK, but there is no Display box in the middle of the CygLink main
window :
Ö This indicates an internal failure in the Gauge configuration
The Gauge must be returned to Cygnus for servicing
See : CygLink main window
, page 31
If it is difficult to obtain any reading
¾ If there is only a single flashing bar in the Echo-Strength display - this means the
Gauge is not receiving any echoes :
Ö Check that the Probe-assembly is properly attached to the Gauge
See : Fitting the probe-Assembly
, page 18
Ö Confirm that the Probe-cable is not damaged
¾ If there is mostly one fixed bar plus one flashing bar this means that the Gauge is having
difficulty obtaining more than one echo :
Ö This indicates either poor contact, or badly corroded material
Ö This can also occur if the Probe membrane has been fitted incorrectly
Check the Probe and its membrane are properly assembled
See : Probe / Knurled-Ring Assembly
, page 20
