EASYSENSE Q3+ and Q5+ DO185 (2)
Powering EASYSENSE Q 3+ or 5+
EASYSENSE Q can be powered by:
1. Using a mains power supply
2. By the USB port (whilst connected to the computer)
3. By its internal batteries (when charged)
The power light on EASYSENSE Q will only light when the logger is accepting power
from an attached mains power supply or via the USB cable.
If EASYSENSE Q is accepting power from either the USB port or a mains power
supply it will not operate auto switch off (see page 27).
EASYSENSE Q has no ON/OFF switch. To operate, press any one of the buttons on the
top panel.
Mains Power
The mains power supply is used to power EASYSENSE Q and to recharge its internal
batteries in preparation for logging data away from the computer. Connect the power
supply to the socket on the left side of the logger labelled POWER.
Power supply specifications: 5V DC mains adaptor, able to supply 500 to 1000 mA,
with a positive centre and negative outer pin.
Batteries
EASYSENSE Q is fitted with a rechargeable lithium-ion battery pack. Whenever
EASYSENSE Q is connected to its mains power supply or the USB port on the
computer, it will automatically re-charge the battery. A full charge will take up to 12
hours.
Lithium-ion batteries are ‘memory-free’ and prefer a partial rather than a full discharge.
Constant partial discharges with frequent recharges will not cause any harm. Frequent
full discharges should be avoided whenever possible.
• The USB drivers for EASYSENSE Q must be installed before a link (and therefore
charging via the USB port) is established. The USB chip will be powered by a USB port,
so the drivers can be installed even if the logger’s battery is discharged.
• If the computer is switched off or in sleep mode, charging via the USB port will stop.
• EASYSENSE Q can only be connected directly to a computers USB port or by using a
powered USB hub. It will not work with an unpowered hub (EASYSENSE Q
requires an output current of 500mA).
• An extension cable must be of a single direct port extension type.
Ideally EASYSENSE Q should be stored at about 40% or more charge. Do not store
EASYSENSE Q with its battery fully discharged. Even when turned off (asleep), Q will
use a small amount of current, and the battery will slowly discharge. If EASYSENSE Q
is to be stored for lengthy periods without use then it’s a good idea to recharge the battery
every 6 – 8 weeks.
When its battery is in good condition and fully charged it will power EASYSENSE Q in
EasyLog or remote mode for at least 42 days.
