Magnetic Stripe Data Formats
Themoduleformat(ISOorJIS)definesthetypeand
formatoftheinformationtoencode.ThestandardISO
format(alsoknownasIAT)isathreetrackoption.The
JISformatisasingletrackoption.Bothformatsinclude
defaultdatasettingsthatdeterminehowmany
characterscanbeencodedoneachtrack,andwhich
characterscanbeencoded.
Yourcardscanusethedefaultformatforeachtrack,or
canuseadifferentcombinationoftracksanddata
formats.
Three-Track Option (ISO/IAT)
Thedefaultdataformatsforathreetrackmagneticstripeoptionare:
Track1IATA
Track2ABA
Track3TTS
ThiscombinationisoftenabbreviatedIAT.ThisformatisalsocalledISOformat.
IATA (International Air Transport Association)
ThemaximumnumberofcharactersforIATAformatdatais76characters.These
characterscanincludespaces,uppercasealphabeticcharacters,numeric
characters,andthefollowingspecialcharacters:
