This section gives you the basics for diagnosing and solving printer problems:

First see “Diagnosing Problems” below to help determine what the cause of
the problem may be.

Then see “Problems and Solutions” on page 33 for solutions to common
problems.
It’s a good idea to check EPSON’s web site periodically for possible
updates to your printer driver. Visit www.epson.com and check the
section for your product to see if there is a new driver available for
downloading to your computer.
You’ll find additional troubleshooting tips in the “Troubleshooting” section of your
electronic EPSON Stylus COLOR 440 Manual.
Diagnosing Problems
Your printer includes a number of ways to help you diagnose problems:

Check the lights on the printer’s control panel first (these identify the most
common problems). See “Checking the Control Panel Lights” on page 31.
■
You can also use the Status Monitor 2 utility (not available for
Windows 3.1x) to identify common problems. For instructions, see your
electronic EPSON Stylus COLOR 440 Manual.
■
To determine whether the problem is caused by the printer itself, run a
printer operation check. See your electronic EPSON Stylus COLOR 440
Manual for instructions.
■
For the latest information, check the EPSON Stylus COLOR 440 and Status
Monitor 2 Help programs and ReadMe files in the EPSON program group or folder.
