5.2.4 POWER SUPPLY WIRING
The F115-P can be powered from an extern power supply or via the passive, loop-powered 4-20mA
current loop (Type AP). An internal power supply is also available in the form of a lithium battery.
When both external and internal power supplies are present, the internal power supply is interrupted
and will act as a backup supply. Note that the optional backlight only works with external power.
The following types of power supply are available for hazardous area:
• Type PX / PD As standard, the F115-P is supplied with terminal 0 and 1 to power the product
externally. Additionally, the power supply circuit connected to terminal 1 is looped
through to terminal 2 to allow easy installation, e.g. to supply the analog output.
If a circuit is connected to terminal 2, pay attention to the following restrictions:
o The maximum output values for current, voltage and power of terminal 2 are
equal to the parameters of the circuit connected to terminal 1.
o The maximum allowed external capacitance and inductance values of the
circuit connected to terminal 1 must be higher than the sum of the values of
all installed apparatus in the circuit (terminal 1, terminal 2 and any external
devices).
• Type AP Offers a low power supply when the current loop output circuit is connected.
• Type PC Offers an internal intrinsically safe lithium battery.
This certified battery (FW-LiBAT) may be replaced in hazardous area, but only
with a new certified FW-LiBAT battery. (See paragraph 6.3).
5.2.5 SENSOR SUPPLY
For type PC / PX / AP Terminal 11 and 14: Limited sensor supply
These types of power supply only offer a limited sensor supply, which SHOULD NOT be used to
supply the flowmeters electronics, converters etc. as it will not provide adequate sustained power!
All energy used by the flowmeters pick-up will directly influence the battery life-time. It is strongly
advised to use a "zero power" pickup such as a coil or reed-switch when operating without external
power. It is possible to use some low power NPN or PNP output signals, but the battery life time will
be significantly reduced (consult your distributor). The sensor supply is fixed to 1.2V for coil type
inputs and 3V for all other types of inputs (set by firmware).
For type PD Terminal 11 and 14: Selectable sensor supply
Besides offering the limited sensor supply as described above for type PC / PX / AP, this type of
power supply also offers a more powerful external sensor supply. External sensor supply is only
available when an external power supply is connected and provides a sensor supply voltage of 8.2V,
for example to power a Namur sensor.
The sensor supply voltage is selected with the switches as indicated in below diagrams.
Setting the sensor supply
To set the sensor supply, follow these instructions:
1. Open the enclosure as indicated in section 4.3 and carefully remove the cable-connectors.
2. Remove the protective cover by removing the two screws and lifting it upwards. If a battery is
installed inside the cover, disconnect the battery connector from its counterpart.
3. Find and set the switches to the indicated positions, with the aid of a small screwdriver.
4. Reconnect the battery (if applicable) and replace the protective cover using the screws (< 1Nm).
5. Carefully return the cable-connectors and close the enclosure as indicated in section 4.3.
