Introduction
Innovative technology and ergonomic design make your AMILO the ideal user-friendly and reliable
notebook. Your operating system is preinstalled on the hard disk and optimally configured to
facilitate the procedure when you use your AMILO for the first time.
Your notebook’s main memory can be expanded to 1 Gbyte with a 128-, 256-, 512-Mbyte memory
module (this applies for AMILO D 6800 / 7800 / 8800 models) or to 2 Gbytes with a 1 Gbyte module
(for AMILO D 6820 / 7820 / 8820 models). Your notebook is also equipped with a 3 1/2-inch disk
drive. Depending on the model, your notebook is delivered with a DVD-ROM drive or a combo drive
(CD-RW/DVD).
A PC card slot (CardBus or PCMCIA) enables the notebook to operate two type I or type II PC cards
or one type III PC card. Your notebook is equipped with an internal modem. In addition, your
notebook is equipped with a S Video out socket to connect to a television. You can connect external
devices such as digital audio/video devices or other high-speed devices to IEEE1394 (FireWire).
For mouse control, the notebook has a touchpad.
For the models AMILO D 6800 / 7800 / 8800 an infrared port is available for wireless data
communications with other devices.
Your notebook has connectors for external devices such as an external monitor, a printer, and a
mouse. The ECP capable parallel port is designed for fast bi-directional data transfer. You can
connect peripheral devices such as a scanner, loudspeakers, gamepads, keyboard, or mouse via
the two USB ports.
An audio controller and two internal loudspeakers provide your AMILO with an audio capability. You
can also connect an external microphone and an external loudspeaker. Furthermore a digital audio
output (SPDIF) is provided.
The system settings of the notebook can be configured via the user-friendly BIOS Setup programme.
Certain system settings (e.g. screen display, energy saving functions) can be modified via various
key combinations while you are using the notebook.
Your AMILO has a number of security features to ensure that no unauthorised person can access
your data. For example, you can activate a screen saver with password protection. The security
functions in the BIOS Setup also allow you to protect your data by means of passwords.
This operating manual tells you how to put your AMILO into operation, and how to operate it in daily
use.
