3.1.2.17. EHM (End Host Mode)
Fujitsu introduced a further operation mode is called End Host Mode (EHM) . This
mode provides a very simple way of establishing connections and administering
the switch.
EHM have following feature:
EHM does not interfere with the customer STP domain nor does it introduce data
loops. It has no STP implemented and also avoids loops inherently with disabled
switching between uplink ports.
EHM does not burden additional effort for LAG deployment. With the new
introduced technology "Pinning", there is no LAG to the upstream (customer)
switch required anymore, but available as an option.
EHM does not burden additional effort for VLAN administration. With "
Automatic VLAN uplink Synchronization " (AVS), VLAN administration is greatly
automated.
These characteristics mean that the switch are very easy and secure for integration
in any data center networking environment. There are just two easy steps to
integrate:
1. Simply connect the switch with the upstream network. No STP, LAG and VLAN
configuration is required.
2. On the switch downlink ports, assign VLANs for the servers (i.e. on the downlink
port only). Assigned VLANs will be automatically synchronized with the
appropriate uplink port (connection to the upstream customer switch).
3.1.2.17.1. Enable EHM
EHM and normal switch mode can coexist at the same time. To enable EHM, users
need to add uplink port(s) and downlink port(s) into a Pin Group. EHM behavior
will start automatically after pin group is formed, and no need to reboot system.
Each port in pin group will follow the EHM behavior, which will be described as
below.
Users should avoid following configurations work together with EHM:
STP (should be disabled on all EHM ports) -
