<Replacement (element replace type)>
1. Place a receptacle beneath the vinyl pipe from
drain cock .
2. Loosen air plug , loosen drain cock and
drain the fuel in the fuel filter; then tighten the air
plug and drain cock.
3. Loosen center bolt , remove filter case and
element .
4. Clean all parts except the element and reassem-
ble.
• Replace O-ring and gasket with new
ones. Make sure that the O-ring is not twisted
when installing.
• Insert center bolt into the filter case
beforehand; then place spring , washer
and the element on the center bolt.
• Insert O-ring in the filter case and tighten
the center bolt in filter head .
Tightening torque: 20 to 29 Nm (2 to 3 kgfm)
5. Operate the fuel pump to feed some fuel. Refer
to page 11-48 for the method for bleeding air
from the fuel system.
6. Wipe off any fuel spilled on the engine.
7. Start the engine and inspect for oil leaks.
CAUTION
If you twist and attach components, they might
be damaged.
<Replacement (spin on type)>
1. Remove the element assembly by turning it
counterclockwise.
2. Replace element assembly with a new product.
Use MITSUBISHI genuine parts for replace-
ments.
3. Lightly coat engine oil over the gasket on the
element assembly, then gently twist the element
clockwise by hand until the gasket contacts the
seal surface on the filter head . Twist further
3/4 to 1 turn from this condition. There are four
marks equally spaced on the periphery of ele-
ment assembly. Twist the element with these
marks as reference.
4. After tightening, bleed out the air.
5. Inspect for fuel leaks.
