ENGINE
3-31
(6) Replacement
1. If the vehicle has a water cock attached, turn the
cock all the way to counterclockwise to fully
open it.
2. Unlock the pressure cap by raising the fas-
tener .
3. Remove pressure cap and reservoir tank cap .
4. Open the engine drain plug and the radiator
drain cock , and drain out coolant. Also drain
coolant inside the reservoir tank.
5. After draining is completed, close the drain plug
and the drain cock.
6. Wash the cooling system.
Pour tap water (preferably warm water) into the
pressure cap port and start the engine. Increase
engine rpm until the water temperature reaches
90°C or above, operate the engine for about 10
minutes; then drain out coolant. The coolant
becomes very hot, so please be careful. Repeat
the above procedure until the water drained out
becomes clear.
CAUTION
If the coolant is extremely dirty, have it
inspected at your nearest authorized MITSUB-
ISHI FUSO distributor or dealer.
7. Pour coolant (longlife coolant + soft water)
through the pressure cap port until it reaches the
brim.
8. Run the engine a while with the pressure cap left
open and bleed air from the cooling system.
WARNING
In replacing coolant, there are times when
the coolant may be very hot. Be careful to
avoid burns.
Close the pressure cap before running the
engine.
If the pressure cap is left open, when
engine rpm increases, the rise in water
temperature will cause the coolant to
expand and spill out of the pressure cap.
