4.3.4 Guidelines for connections
I
ntroduction
This section provides guidelines for the connection of process components to ÄKTA
ready XL.
Process connections
• Use non-collapsible piping or tubing that has an internal diameter sufficient for
the flow rate specified. The inner diameter of the tubing and its connections
should be greater than or equal to the corresponding diameter of the system.
• Inlet and outlet containers shall be located and arranged so that inlet pressure,
back pressure and suction height remains within system specification limits, see
Section 9.1 Specifications, on page 150 and the technical information in the sys-
tem-specific documentation package.
• Do not overtighten TC clamps, as this may lead to malfunction of the system.
• Make sure that all containers are dimensioned for maximum possible volume
when the equipment is left unattended.
• Keep the tubing as short as possible to minimize hold-up volume in the system.
• Route the tubing to minimize the risk of tripping.
• If any tubing or hose should be violently pulled by accident, then check for dam-
age, leakage and mechanical integrity before continuing operation.
• The chemical properties of the tubing used must meet or exceed the properties
specified in Section 9.3 Chemical resistance, on page 153.
