6.1 Connect a column

ntroduction
This section outlines the steps needed to connect a column to ÄKTA ready XL using
UNICORN control software.
For other control software, refer to the provided documentation for instructions.
Although ReadyToProcess columns are recommended for use with ÄKTA ready XL,
other columns may be used provided they are capable of withstanding the maximum
system pressure. If not, separate pressure safety devices must be used.

WARNING
If the pressure limit of the column is lower than that of the sys-
tem, the high pressure alarm settings in UNICORN must be
changed accordingly.

ake sure that the connections to the column and system com-
ply with the requirements in the column and system Operating In-
structions.

f the pressure limit for any component connected to the system
is lower than the system, the high pressure alarm for the system
has to be changed. In UNICORN software, this is done either in the
System →Settings in UNICORN or written into the specific
UNICORN method. The method will always override the System
→Settings.
Note that operators with access rights can accidently reset the
pressure limits set in System →Settings.
For other control softwares, refer to the software documentation
to create a similar procedure.
