Measuring S-Parameters using a Two-Port Calibration
EXAMPLE #2: the noninsertable device has a 3.5 mm(f) input
connector, and a type-N(f) output connector.
NOTE For analyzers with 50 ohm input impedance only: in the 50 ohm type-N
calibration kit (HP 85032B), select the APC-7-to-type-N(f) adapter and in
the 3.5 mm calibration kit (HP 85033D), select the APC-7-to-3.5 mm(f)
adapter. Connect these two adapters to create the type-N-to-3.5 mm
female-to-female adapter in the following example.
1. Connect a test cable with 3.5 mm(m) connectors to the analyzer’s
port 1. (This example assumes a type-N(m)-to-3.5 mm(f) adapter is
connected directly to the analyzer’s port 1.)
2. Connect a test cable with type-N(m) connectors to the analyzer’s
port 2.
3. Press ( or )
.
4. Select the proper calibration kits for each port:
• For port 1, use the front panel knob or the keys to
highlight Port 1 in the display’s table. Press .
• For port 2, use the front panel knob or the keys to
highlight Port 2 in the display’s table. Press .
5. Press . Perform a one-port reflection
calibration using type-N(f) standards on the type-N(m) open-end of
the port 2 test cable. Refer to “Perform a User One-Port Calibration”
on page 3-49.
6. Connect the type-N-to-3.5 mm female-to-female adapter to the
type-N(m) open-end of the port 2 test cable.
7. Add a 3.5 mm short to the open end of the adapter as shown in Figure
3-13.
