Operation
of this method is that should the pulses cease the flow rate calculation will not occur in the last known flow rate will
remain. This may require some sort of maximum time limit between pulses to determine when the pulse rate has in fact
ceased.
Option 3
This proposal is a hybrid between the two previous options. In this case the number of pulses and the accrued time are
used to calculate the flow rate. This calculation is refreshed every time a pulse is received and is the number of pulses
accumulated over the elapsed time. The accuracy will increase as each pulse is received, finalising at the end of the period
with the actual value, which is then logged.
During the logging period the flow rate will give, in most circumstances a reasonably accurate and useful value that is
responding at least as fast as the pulses are received. This also avoids the problem where the flow rate does not become
calculated as zero when the pulses in fact stop. A slight disadvantage is that the displayed flow rate from the start of the
logging period until the receipt of the first pulse will be zero. The LCD display could indicate the rate is being calculated to
avoid confusion.
LCD Screens
There are two options for the title LCD screen. These are shown below with the standard one for comparison.
