Chapter 5. Accessing the service processor
You can access the service processor remotely.
The management console can connect directly to the Advanced System Management Interface (ASMI) for
a selected system. ASM is an interface to the service processor that you can use to manage the operation
of the host, such as the automatic power restart function, and to view information about the host, such as
the error log and vital product data.
To access the ASMI by using the IBM Flex System Manager, see Launching Advanced System
Management (http://publib.boulder.ibm.com/infocenter/flexsys/information/topic/
com.ibm.acc.psm.hosts.doc/dpsm_managing_hosts_launch_asm.html).
To access the ASMI by using the Hardware Management Console (HMC), see Accessing the ASMI using
the HMC (http://pic.dhe.ibm.com/infocenter/powersys/v3r1m5/topic/p7hby/asmihmc.htm).
To access the ASMI by using a web browser, complete the following steps:
1. Assign an IP address to the service processor of the compute node. Perform the following steps:
a. Access the Chassis Management Module (CMM) web interface. For instructions, see Ethernet
connection (http://pic.dhe.ibm.com/infocenter/flexsys/information/topic/com.ibm.acc.cmm.doc/
remote_console_ethernet_connect_cmm.html).
b. From the menu bar, click Chassis Management. Then, in the drop-down menu click Component
IP Configuration. From the Device Name list, select the compute node name to access property
tabs for the compute node. On the IPv4 property tab set the static IP address, mask, and gateway.
For more information about setting the IP configuration of a compute node, see Chassis
management options (http://pic.dhe.ibm.com/infocenter/flexsys/information/topic/
com.ibm.acc.cmm.doc/cmm_ui_chassis_management.html).
2. Open a web browser on the client computer. Type https://xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx, where xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx is the
IP address of the compute node service processor.
