Replacing the thermal sensor on an IBM Flex System p460 Compute
Node
You can install this tier 2 CRU, or you can request IBM to install it, at no additional charge, under the
type of warranty service that is designated for the compute node. Use this procedure to remove the
thermal sensor on an IBM Flex System p460 Compute Node and replace it with a new thermal sensor.
About this task
The IBM Flex System p460 Compute Node contains a thermal sensor in each bay. The sensor in the first
bay is attached to the light path panel and must be removed and replaced as part of that
customer-replaceable unit (CRU). This topic describes the replacement of the sensor in the other bay. This
sensor is a separate CRU. In order to prevent overheating of the compute node, replace a defective
thermal sensor.
To replace the thermal sensor, complete the following steps:
Procedure
1. Read the Safety topic and the “Installation guidelines” on page 35.
2. Shut down the operating system on all partitions of the compute node, turn off the compute node,
and remove the compute node from the IBM Flex System Enterprise Chassis. See “Removing the
compute node from an IBM Flex System Enterprise Chassis” on page 37.
