4.8 Optional Function Boards
The eMG80 KSU can be equipped with several option boards to provide additional or
expanded functionality. Each optional Function board is installed on a specific option
connector on the MBU as discussed in this section. The optional Function Boards include:
VVMU: VoIP and Voice Mail expansion Unit
MEMU/MEMU2: Memory expansion Unit
MODU: Modem function Unit
MG-CMU4: Call Metering Unit with 4 channels
4.8.1 VVMU (VoIP & Voice Mail Unit)
The VVMU, refer to
Description
Figure 4.8.1-1 below, expands the number of VoIP channels available
in the system, expands the number of Voice Mail channels and expands the memory for
Voice Mail storage. In addition, the LAN port equipped on the VVMU provides the interface
to the VVMU VoIP channels and for software applications that can be installed in the
eMG80. The VVMU is installed on the KSU MBU connectors CN3 as described in section
4.5.
As shown in the VVMU capacity chart below, the basic eMG80 is equipped with two (2)
VoIP channels, which are required for SIP Trunks, IP Phones (LIP or SIP) and IP
Networking. The basic system hardware can support an additional six VoIP channels by
entry of an unlock code (license). Unlock codes are available in 1-channel increments.
Installation of the VVMU and licenses expands the number of VoIP channels up to 8
channels.
For Voice Mail, the basic eMG80 (built-in VM) supports two (2) channels and 1 hour of
storage. The 8 channels for Voice Mail and 15 hours for storage can be added for
additional channels and storage by license.

NOTE
The MEMU/MEMU2 can be added to the system to expand the Voice Mail storage capacity
by 15 hours/60 hours. With the VVMU and the MEMU/MEMU2 installed the Voice Mail
storage capacity is 32/77 hours (basic 1 hour plus VVMU 16 hours, plus MEMU 15 hours
or MEMU2 60 hours).
