Chapter 6 DSL Testing
Specifying test settings
SmartClass TPS User’s Guide
50 22035456, Rev 001 June 2014
To specify the modem operation mode
1 For the BCM96368 modem: from the ADSL/VDSL menu, select Network.
For the BCM963168 modem: from the xDSL menu, select Network.
2 Specify the Modem Operation (Router or Bridge).
The SmartClass Triple Play Services can test DSL services in two modes: DSL-Bridge and
DSL-Modem/Router. They include the same testing capabilities, but the difference is in the IP
addressing.
In Router mode, the SmartClass Triple Play Services replaces the modem and router, as indi-
cated by the dotted-line box in Figure 9. As the router, it stops the service provider’s IP on the
network side and assigns private IPs to equipment on the customer side.
Typically, you would use this scenario if you are using IPoA or PPPoA Data Modes. Bridge
mode is not supported in these modes and there is no VLAN.
