4.4.3.4 Acknowledgement to a received distress call
After receiving a distress call, ship stations have to watch on CH16. But if received the distress call
repeatedly, ship stations (inc. own ship) are allowed to transmit a DSC acknowledgement to terminate
the call only after consulting with an RCC or a coast station and being directed to do so.
Procedure

Press MENU , and through hierarchical
menus, select the 4.1 Received distress list.
On the bottom line, the MMSI of the ship
highlighted by the cursor will be displayed.

Select the call to be acknowledged and
press ENT.
The distress message will be displayed.

Select ACK with the jog dial and press ENT.
The popup message at right will be displayed.

After confirmed the popup message, select
"Continue" and press ENT to send the
acknowledgement.
After the transmission, the channel will be set
to 16 automatically.
After sending the acknowledgement,
commence the distress traffic via
radiotelephony on CH16.

Repeat the 9-digit identity (MMSI) of the ship in
distress, 3 times.
