PTX1000 Component Redundancy
The following hardware components provide redundancy on PTX1000 models:
•
Cooling system—The PTX1000 has three fan modules. Each fan module is a redundant unit containing
two fans. If a fan module fails and the remaining fan modules are unable to keep the PTX1000 within
the desired temperature thresholds, chassis alarms are raised and the PTX1000 might shut down.
•
Power supplies—The PTX1000 is shipped with four power supplies. A PTX1000 provides for twice the
number of power supplies needed to power all the components in the router, which is known as 2N
redundancy. If one power supply fails or is removed, the remaining power supplies balance the electrical
load without interruption and still provide N + 1 redundancy while the failing power supply is replaced.
