Connecting the PTX1000 to Ground
To meet safety and electromagnetic interference (EMI) requirements and to ensure proper operation, you
must connect the chassis to earth ground before you connect it to power. For installations that require a
separate grounding conductor to the chassis, use the protective earthing terminal on the PTX1000 chassis
to connect to the earth ground.
NOTE: An AC-powered PTX1000 gains additional grounding when you plug the power supply
in the device into a grounded AC power outlet by using an AC power cord appropriate for your
geographical location. See “PTX1000 AC Power Cord Specifications” on page 45.
CAUTION: Before you connect power to the PTX1000, a licensed electrician must
attach a cable lug to the grounding and power cables that you supply. A cable with an
incorrectly attached lug can damage the PTX1000 (for example, by causing a short
circuit).
NOTE: Mount the PTX1000 in the rack before attaching the grounding lug to the PTX1000. See
“Mounting the PTX1000 in a Rack” on page 76.
Ensure that you have the following parts and tools available (none are provided):
Grounding cable—The grounding cable must be 8 AWG (8.4 mm²), minimum 90° C wire, or as permitted
by the local code.
Grounding lug for your grounding cable—The grounding lug required is a Panduit LCD6-14BH-L or
equivalent.
Two #10-32 UNF screws and washers.
Screwdriver appropriate for the #10-32 UNF screws.
To connect a grounding cable to the PTX1000:
1. Connect one end of the grounding cable to a proper site earth ground, such as the rack in which the
PTX1000 is mounted.
2. Place the grounding lug attached to the grounding cable over the protective earthing terminal on the
chassis (see Figure 30 on page 82).
