Thespeciedcablelengthof80metresonlyappliestotheGPS–702–GG-Nantenna
deliveredwiththesystem.Otherlengthsmayapplytoothertypesofantennas.
TheRFFibreOpticalLinkisusedasanantennacableextensionallowingthedistance
betweentheantennaandreceivertobeextendedtoseveralhundredmetres.
Itshouldalsobenotedthatatoopowerfulsignalmaycausesaturationofreceiving
circuitryinshortercableruns,makingitnecessarytousesignalattenuatorsorcables
withhigherattenuationlevels.
Sharpbends,kinksandunnecessaryconnectionsshouldbeavoided.
Externalconnectionsshouldbeappropriatelytreatedwithself-amalgamatingtapeother
preparationstokeepoutwater.
Asfarasispracticallypossible,antennacablesshouldbekeptseparatefromothercables
whichmaycauseelectricalinterference,forexamplepowercables,radiotransmitter
cables,InmarsatandVSATcables.
Wheninstallingantennasandcablesensurethat:
•Cablerunsarenotclosetoanyhotworkareaortouchinganyhotsurface.
•Cablesarenotbenttoomuch.
•Correcttypesofcablesareused.
•Cablesaresecuredandlabeled.
•Allconnectorsaresecurelyfastened.
•Allantennaconnectionsaresealed.
4.5.1GNSSantennaandcableinstallation
ThecablesusedfortheGNSSantennaareRG-214and½"Cellexsuperex.
Caution
IftheantennacableisattachedtotheProcessingUnit,donotattachthe
antennacabletotheantennawhentheunitisrunning.Iftheantennacable
isshort-circuitedwithPOWERON,theGNSSreceiverwillbedamaged.
Howtoinstalltheantenna
1Attachtheantennatothemountingrodandattachtherodtotheship'smastheador
polewithpropermountinghardwarelikeU-boltsorhose-clamps.
2Attachtheantennainterconnectioncabletotheantennaandconnectthe½"Cellex
superexcabletotheotherendoftheinterconnectioncable.
3Wrapoutdoorcableconnectionswithwaterproofself-vulcanisingtape.An
alternativewayofwaterproongistouseheatshrinkhosewithglue.Thehose
shouldcoverthewholeconnectorandpartofthecable.
