DRIVING INSTRUCTIONS
Tests to be performed before each start
The motorcycle must be in a perfect technical condition when operated. For
your own safety, make it a habit to check the motorcycle as described
below before each start.
Perform the following tests:
1 CHECK THE ENGINE OIL LEVEL
Insufficient engine oil will cause premature wear and eventually lead to
engine damage.
2 FUEL
Check the amount of fuel in the tank and make sure the tank vent hose
is kink-free when closing the filler cap.
3 CHAIN
A loose chain can fall off the sprockets, a worn-out chain can tear and
chain that is not greased will cause unnecessary wear to the chain and
sprockets.
4 TIRES
Check the tires for damage. Cut or dented tires must be replaced. The
tread depth must comply with the legal statutes. Also check the air pres-
sure. Insufficient tread depth and incorrect tire pressure will have an
adverse effect on driving behavior.
5 BRAKES
Check the brakes for proper functioning and check the brake fluid level
in the reservoir. The reservoirs are designed not to require refilling, even
if the brake pads are worn. If the brake fluid level drops below the mini-
mum amount this will indicate a leak in the brake system or completely
worn brake pads. Have the brake system checked by an authorized KTM
workshop to avoid brake failure.
Also check the condition of the brake hoses and the thickness of the
brake lining.
Check the free travel of the hand brake lever and foot brake pedal.
6 CABLES
Check all cables for positioning and smooth operation.
7 COOLING LIQUID
Check the cooling liquid level when the engine is cold.
8 ELECTRIC SYSTEM
Check the headlight lamp, taillight, brake light, turn signal, indicator
lamps and horn for proper functioning with the engine running.
9 BAGGAGE
If carrying baggage, check if properly fastened.
10 REAR MIRROR
Sit on the motorcycle and check the adjustment of the rear mirror.
