Chain care
Service is kept to a minimum with the O-ring chain. Clean the chain with
plenty of water. Never use brushes or solvents to clean the chain. A chain
spray specially designed for O ring chains (MOTOREX Chainlube 622) can
be used when the chain has dried.
WARNING
NO LUBRICANT MAY REACH THE REAR TIRE OR THE BRAKE DISK SINCE THIS WOULD CONSI-
DERABLY REDUCE THE TIRE'S ROAD GRIP AND THE BRAKING EFFECT OF THE REAR BRAKE. THIS
CAN EASILY CAUSE THE MOTORCYCLE TO GO OUT OF CONTROL
.
!
CAUTION
!
WHEN MOUNTING THE CHAIN JOINT, MAKE SURE THE LOCKING MEMBER ALWAYS RUNS
IN THE DIRECTION OF TRAVEL
.
Rear sprockets and chain guides should also be checked for wear at this
time and replaced if necessary.
Chain wear
To check for chain wear, proceed as follows:
Switch the transmission to idle and pull the upper part of the chain up with
a load of 10-15 km (see illustration). Now measure the distance between 18
chain rollers on the lower part of the chain. The chain needs to be replaced
when the distance is 272 mm. Since chains do not always wear evenly,
repeat the measurement at different parts of the chain.
NOTE:
Also replace the rear sprockets if mounting a new chain. New chains wear
more quickly on old, broken-in rear sprockets.
