Checking the front brake fluid level
The brake fluid reservoir is combined with the hand brake cylinder on the
handlebar
and has an inspection glass
1. The brake fluid level may not fall below the
middle of the inspection glass whent he reservoir is in a horizontal position.
WARNING
I
F THE BRAKE FLUID LEVEL DROPS BELOW THE MINIMUM LEVEL, THIS INDICATES THAT THE
BRAKE SYSTEM IS EITHER LEAKING OR THE BRAKE PADS COMPLETELY WORN
. CONTACT A
KTM WORKSHOP IMMEDIATELY.
Changing the basic setting the foot brake lever *
The basic setting of the foot brake lever anc be changed by turning the stop
roller
5. Piston rod 6 is used to adjust the free travel on the foot brake
pedal. The foot brake pedal should have 3-5 mm free travel, measured from
the outside. The piston rod should not move the piston in the foot brake
cylinder until you have this free travel (you will feel a stronger resistance on
the foot brake lever).
!
CAUTION
!
IF YOU DO NOT HAVE THIS PLAY, PRESSURE WILL BUILD UP IN THE BRAKE SYSTEM AND
THE BRAKE PADS WILL START TO GRIND
. THE BRAKE SYSTEM WILL OVERHEAT AND
EVEN FAIL IN EXTREME CASES
.
Checking the front brake pads
The brake pads can be seen from the bottom. The lining thickness should
not be less than 1 mm.
WARNING
THE LINING ON THE BRAKE PADS MAY NOT BE LESS THAN 1 MM THICK AT THE WEAKEST
POINT
1, OTHERWISE THE BRAKES MAY FAIL. FOR YOUR OWN SAFETY, HAVE THE BRAKE PADS
REPLACED IN TIME
.
!
CAUTION
!
IF THE BRAKE PADS ARE REPLACED TOO LATE WHEN THE LINING IS PARTLY OR COMPLE-
TELY WORN OFF, THE STEEL PARTS ON THE BRAKE PADS WILL GRIND AGAINST THE BRAKE
DISKS
. THIS SIGNIFICANTLY DECREASES THE BRAKING EFFECT AND WILL DESTROY THE
BRAKE DISKS
.
Refilling the front brake fluid *
Remove the screws 2 and take off the cover 3 and diaphragm 4.
Remove the mirror and loosen the throttle grip if necessary. Set the hand
brake cylinder in a horizontal position and fill DOT 5.1/DOT 4 brake fluid

diaphragm, cover and screws. Wipe off any overflowing or spilled brake
fluid with water.
