Changing the spring preload of the shock absorber
KTM has adjusted the shock absorber for a load (driver plus equipment and
payload) of approx. 105 kg. If you have a passenger or if the load deviates
significantly from 105 kg, you should adjust the preload accordingly. It can
easily be adjusted as follows.
Use the T WRENCH A/F=8 included in the tool set to turn the adjustment
screw
1 to the respective spring preload. Turn in a clockwise direction to
increase the spring preload and in a counterclockwise direction to decrease
the spring preload.
Basic setting - spring preload:
WP 0119Y706.................Turn in a counterclockwise direction all the way to
the stop for 105 kg overall load (driver plus equipment and baggage).
Turn the adjustment screw
1 all the way to the stop in a clockwise direc-
tion for a maximum overall load (232 kg).
Checking the rubber ring the WP shock absorber
A vibration absorber is mounted on the shock absorber as a rubber ring.
This rubber ring is compressed with time and the damping action reduced
accordingly.
Measure the gap width between the two disks at several points on the
periphery. The gap width must be at least 2.5 mm.
Have the rubber ring replaced at an authorized KTM workshop if it has
reached the wear limit.
!
CAUTION
!
THE SHOCK ABSORBER MAY BECOME DAMAGED IF THE RUBBER RING IS NOT REPLACED ON
TIME
.
WARNING
T
HE SHOCK ABSORBER'S DAMPING UNIT IS FILLED WITH HIGH-COMPRESSION NITROGEN.
D
O NOT TRY TO DISASSEMBLE THE SHOCK ABSORBER OR PERFORM SERVICE WORK
YOURSELF
. THIS COULD LEAD TO SEVERE INJURIES.
Lubricating the shock absorber linking
Lubricate the bearings in the rocker arm regularly (MOTOREX Long Therm
2000). Use the grease nipple
2 mounted on the rocker arm for this
purpose.
!
CAUTION
!
IT IS ESPECIALLY IMPORTANT TO LUBRICATE AND GREASE AFTER WASHING THE VEHICLE.
T
HE GREASE WILL PRESS ANY PENETRATED WATER OUT OF THE BEARINGS.
