Chapter 5: Using the Web-based Utility for Configuration
Admin Tab - Log

Flash Level (0-7). Limits log messages saved to the Switch’s permanent flash memory for all levels up to the
specified level. For example, if level 3 is specified, all messages from level 0 to level 3 will be logged to flash.
Note that the Flash Level must be equal to or less than the Ram Level. (Range: 0-7, Default: 3) R
Ram Level (0-7). Limits log messages saved to the Switch’s temporary RAM memory for all levels up to the
specified level. For example, if level 7 is specified, all messages from level 0 to level 7 will be logged to RAM.
(Range: 0-7, Default: 7)
View Flash Logging. Click the button to display log messages stored in the Switch’s flash memory.
View Memory Logging. Click the button to display log messages stored in the Switch’s RAM memory.
Enable the System Log Status, set the level of event messages to be logged to RAM and flash memory, then click
Save Settings.
Syslog
Allows you to configure the logging of messages that are sent to remote Syslog servers. You can limit the event
messages sent to only those messages at or above a specified level.
Remote Log Status. Enables/disables the logging of debug or error messages to the remote logging process.
(Default: Disabled)
Logging Facility. Sets the facility type for remote logging of Syslog messages. There are eight facility types
specified by values of 16 to 23. The facility type is used by the Syslog server to dispatch log messages to an
appropriate service. The attribute specifies the facility type tag sent in Syslog messages. (See RFC 3164.) This
type has no effect on the kind of messages reported by the Switch. However, it may be used by the Syslog server
to process messages, such as sorting or storing messages in the corresponding database. (Range: 16-23,
Default: 23)
Logging Trap. Limits log messages that are sent to the remote Syslog server for all levels up to the specified
level. For example, if level 3 is specified, all messages from level 0 to level 3 will be sent to the remote server.
(Range: 0-7, Default: 7)
Syslog Server. Displays the list of remote server IP addresses that will receive Syslog messages. The maximum
number of host IP addresses allowed is five.
Enable Remote Log Status, set the Logging Facility type number, and configure the level of event messages to be
sent to Syslog servers. Enter up to five Syslog server IP addresses in the server list. Click Save Settings.
