TheFW106/FW106Ccontrolpanelmaynotshowanalarmconditionwithoutcompatibleinitiatingdevices
(smokedetectors,etc.)andnotificationdevices(horn,lights,etc.)connectedtoit.Electricalratingsofthe
initiationandnotificationappliancesmustbecompatiblewiththeelectricalratingsofthecontrolpanel
andmustbeproperlyinterconnected.The
wiringusedforinterconnectionmustbelarge enoughtocarry
thetotalcurrentforallapplianceswithoutexcessivevoltagedrop.PleaserefertoAppendix‐B:Wire
SelectionGuidefordetail.
Thecontrolpanelmustbeconnectedtoadedicatedprimaryelectricalsourcethathasahighdegreeof
reliabilityand
adequatecapacityforthiscontrolpanel.Themeansofdisconnectingthispowersourceshallbe
availableonlytoauthorizedpersonnelandclearlymarked"FireAlarmCircuitControl".

otherwiserequiredbylocalcodesandtheAHJmustalsobeconnectedtothecontrolpanel.Thesebatteriesdo
losecapacitywithage.Batteriesmustbereplacedwhentheyfailtoprovidethecontrolpanelwiththerequired
standbyandalarmpowerorafter4
years,whicheverhappensfirst.Thesebatteriesmustbecheckedfor
performanceatleasttwiceayearormoreoften,iflocalrequirementsdictate.
Eventhoughthiscontrolpanelwasmadetolastfortheexpectedlifeofthefirealarmsystem,partscanfailat
anytime.Therefore,aregulartest
programshouldbefollowedanddocumentedtomakesureeachpartofthe
systemistested,asindicatedinChapter7ofNFPA72,andCAN/ULC‐S536,ormoreoftenifdictatedbylocal
coderequirements.Malfunctioningunitsmustbereplacedorrepairedimmediatelybyfactoryauthorized
servicepersonnel.
Thiscontrolpanelisdesignedtoshowanalarmconditionwhentheinitiatingdevicesconnectedtoit
detectsspecific conditions. These conditions mayor may not represent a life‐threatening condition.
Unneeded evacuation of a building or an area may subject individuals to an unnecessary hazard.
Therefore,itisimportantthat
thebuildingowner,manager,orrepresentativepromulgate,distribute,
and/or post instructions describing steps to be taken when the fire alarm control panel signals an
alarmcondition.Theseinstructionsshouldbedeveloped inco‐operationwithrepresentativesofthe
localauthorityhavingjurisdictionandinaccordancewiththeapplicablestandards.
