General instructions
Introduction
You have just acquired a low frequency function generator; thank you for your
confidence in the quality of our products.
This instrument is compliant with safety standard NF EN 61010-1 (2001),
single insulation, concerning electronic measuring instruments. For optimal
service, read this manual carefully and observe the operating precautions.
Non-compliance with the warnings and/or operating instructions might damage
the unit and/or its components and might be dangerous for the user.
Safety
precautions and
measures
• This instrument was designed for indoor use, in an environment with a
pollution degree of 2, at an altitude lower than 2000 m, a temperature
between 0°C and 50°C with a relative humidity lower than 80 % at up to
40°C.
• The “MAIN OUT”, “SWEEP OUT”, “TTL OUT” outputs are protected for input
voltages not exceeding 60 VDC.
• The “FREQ EXT” input may be used for measurements on category I
installations, for voltages never exceeding 300 V in relation to the earth.
• Mains power supply: max. voltage 115 V to 230 V, depending on model.
definition of
installation
categories
(see IEC 664-1)
CAT I : The CAT I circuits are circuits protected by devices limiting low level
transient overvoltages.
Example : protected electronic circuits
CAT II : CAT II circuits are power supply circuits for domestic appliances or
similar, vulnerable to average-value transient overvoltages.
Example : power supply for domestic appliances and portable tools
CAT III : CAT III circuits are power supply circuits for power devices, vulnerable
to major transient overvoltages.
Example : power supply for industrial machines or devices
CAT IV : CAT IV circuits are circuits vulnerable to very high transient overvoltages.
Example : power inputs
before use
• Verify that the selection of power supply voltage corresponds to that of the
mains (see Functional Description chapter, operation).
• Observe environmental and storage conditions.
• Check the condition of the fuse and the power supply cable (three-wire
network: phase, neutral and earth) delivered with the unit compliant with
standard NF EN 61010-1 (2001) connected, on one side, to the instrument
and on the other, to the network.
• A preheating of one half-hour ensures compliance with the above mentioned
technical characteristics.
during use
• Carefully read all the notes preceded by the symbol .
• Connect the instrument to a socket fitted with an earthing plug.
• Do not obstruct air vents.
• For safety, use only appropriate cables and accessories delivered with the
unit or certified by the manufacturer.
• When the unit is connected to the measuring circuits, never touch an unused
terminal.
