poisonousandcontaincarbonmonoxide,
whichcancauseunconsciousnessandmay
evenbefatal.
Catalyticconverterscanbedamagedifthe
wrongfuelisused,orifanenginemisre
occurs.Beforestartingtheengine,please
readcarefullytheprecautionsdetailedunder
thesection"CatalyticConverter".
OperationofStartingtheEngine
1Switchoffallunnecessaryelectricalequipment
(includingtheairconditioning);
2Applytheparkingbrake(referto"BrakeSystem"of
thissection);
3Forvehicleswithautomatictransmission,makesure
theshiftleverisinPorNpositionandpressthe
brakepedal;
Note:Whentheshiftleverisinanyotherposition,
theenginecannotbestarted.
4Formanualtransmissionvehicle,ensureneutralis
selectedwhentheclutchpedalisfullypressed;
5Insertthekey,rotateittopositionSTARTandrelease
thekeyimmediatelyaftertheengineisstarted.
Note:Aftertheenginestarts,ifthekeyisnotreleased
immediately,thestarterwillcontinuetowork,which
willnotonlydischargethebattery,butalsodamage
thestarterandstartermotor,catalyticconverterand
particulatelter.
