ittoPositionⅢ,thenreleasethehandsetassoonas
theenginehasstarted.
Note:Continueduseofthestarterwillnotonly
dischargethebattery,butmaydamagethestarter
motor,starterringgearordieselparticulatelter.
DONOTpresstheacceleratorpedalwhilestartingand
DONOToperatethestarterformorethan15secondsat
atime.Iftheenginefailstostart,removethehandsetand
waitatleast10secondsbeforetryingagain.
Ifthehandsetisnotrecognisedbytheengine
immobilisationsystemwhenitisinsertedintothedocking
station,theenginewillbedisabled,and‘EngineDisabled’
withanwarningiconwillappearinthemessagecentre(see
MessageCentreinInstrumentsandControlschapter).
ColdClimates
Intemperaturesof-10°Candbelow,enginecrankingtimes
willincrease.Itisessentialthatallunnecessaryelectrical
equipmentisswitchedoffwhilecranking.
Driving
Intheinterestoffueleconomy,itisadvisabletodrive
thevehicleassoonaspossibleafterstarting.Remember
thatharshacceleration,orlabouringtheenginebefore
thenormaloperationaltemperaturehasbeenreached,can
damagetheengine.
StoppingtheEngine
1Afterbringingthecartoastop,ALWA YSapplythe
parkingbrakeandselectneutral.
2T oapplytheparkingbrake,pulltheEPBswitch
upwardsuntiltheindicatorintheEPBswitch
illuminates,theEPBwarminglampintheinstrument
packwillalsoilluminate.
3PressthehandsettoPositionⅢandrelease,thiswill
stoptheengine.Pullthehandsetoutofthedockto
switchofftheignition.
Afterstrenuoustowingordrivingathighspeed
(particularlyinhotweather),itissuggestedtoallowthe
enginetoidleforafewminutesbeforeswitchingoff,which
